Abstract:
The research described objectives of this study were (1) To find out the types of moral values in the Life of
Pi Movie, (2) To find out the Benefits watching in the Life of Pi Movie.
The research design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is the movie
entitled Life of Pi. The data in this research were taken from the movie in Life of Pi movie, where the data is
obtained from the dialogues and utterance of the characters in the movie that represent moral values. The instrument
in this research is the researcher herself who collects, analyzes, and observes the data.
The result showed that Life of Pi movie contained 10 types of moral values based on Linda and Eyre’s
theory which divides into two groups consisting of value of being and value of giving. Value of being consisted of
honesty, courage, peaceability, self-reliance and potential, self-discipline and moderation, Fidelity and chasity.
Meanwhile, value of giving consisted of loyalty and dependability, respect, love, unselfishness and sensitivity,
kindness and friendliness, and also Justice and mercy. And the most dominant moral value in the movie is the moral
value of courage. Furthermore, there are 5 out of the benefits watching Life of Pi movie based on Sanjoy Roy (2013)
There are (1) When we love and respect others, when we work with honesty and when we do only what is right. (2)
Moral values help in shaping the character and personality of an individual. (3) Moral values are essential for human
relationships at all the levels of life. (4) Moral values help us differentiate between good and bad, right and wrong.
(5) Moral values help you in finding out the true purpose of your life.
