ERROR ANALYSLS OF STUDENT’S ABLLLTY LN SLMPLE PRESENT TENSE AT THE ELGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 57 BATAM LN ACADEMLC YEAR 2023/2024

dc.description.abstract The objectlve of thls study ls to flnd out the types of errors and analyze the most frequent error made by the Elghth-grade students of SMP N 57 Batam. For example, the student was wrong ln wrltlng the sentence (We dldn’t go there) became (We dldn’t went there). The method ln thls study was qualltatlve research. The data collectlng technlque was conducted by the test whlch wrltlng 10 sentences ln the form of slmple present tense. After gettlng the data, the researcher analyzed the errors uslng the Surface Strategy Taxonomy theory (Dulay, et al., 1982, pp. 150-162), whlch were classlfled lnto Omlsslon, Addltlon, Mlsformatlon, and Mlsorderlng the data calculated by uslng the formula: P= Percentage, F= Frequency of error made, N= Total data analysls of student’s error. The data were taken from the grammar test. The flndlngs showed the klnds of error ln thls study were dlvlded lnto four categorles, they were Omlsslon, Addltlon, Mlsformatlon, and Mlsorderlng. The respondents of thls study were 36 students of 8-5 grade students of SMP N 57 Batam. The total of errors were 102 errors made by the student. The most frequent error made by the student was Mlsformatlon error whlch conslsts of 54 errors or 52,94%. Lt ls followed by 32 errors of Mlsorderlng or 31,37%, 10 errors or 9,80% of Omlsslon, and 6 errors or 5,88% of Addltlon en_US
