dc.description.abstract The writer uses descriptive – qualitative method which discuss about Achiles feeling to Briseis and for find the positive and negative of the types of appraisal. In analyzing the data, the writer uses the theory based on Martin’s theory (2005), which explains that there are seven affect, eleven judgments, seven appreciation, four engagement and two graduation. In this research, the writer uses the script of The Troy Movie as the data. From the analysis of data, the writer found that positive and negative appraisal of study reveal that types of language appraisal namely are the Attitude of Affect consists of 17 data (60%), Attitude of Judgement consists of 1 data (5%), Attitude of Appreciation consists of 12 data (35%), Engagement consists of 1 data (5 %) and Graduation consists of 0 data (0 %). (a). Affect consists of positive 12 data, negative 5 data, (b). Judgement consist of positive 1 data, (c). Appreciation consist of positive 11 data, positive 1 data, negative (d). Engagement consist of Monogloss 0 data, Heterogloss 0 data, (e). Graduation consist of Force 20 data, Focus 0 data. The most frequency of appraisal types used by Archiles is Attitude of Affect with 17 Data (60%). . This shows that appraisal system is very important in daily communication in order to make a good relationship with each other. en_US
