Abstract:
The objective of the study was to analyze the used of deixis and types refers to theory of Levinson
(1983), and found the most dominant types of deixis according to the theory of Levinson (1983) in "The Rise of
Gru" movie. The methodology used in this study was qualitative descriptive research. In accordance with
Levinson (1983) theory, the qualitative descriptive method collects certain data from the script for the movie
"The Rise of Gru," and then analyzes deixis in accordance with the type of deixis that was collected. The data
are all scripts or scenes containing deixis, which are contained in "The Rise of Gru" movie, while the sources of
all data are taken from scenes or conversations in the movie script of "The Rise of Gru". The research revealed
that there are as many as 478 data already in existence, and in terms of the quantity of information that is now
accessible, the persona deixis category is the most prevalent type of deixis that appears in movie. This category
has as many data as 331, and its frequency is 69%. The researcher hopes that future researchers can develop
and better understand existing deixis research with the same or different theory, and suggest to future
researchers to use other research source such as short stories, poetry, songs, novels, or other to find new insight
and challenges for future researchers.
