LEECH’S SEVEN TYPES OF MEANING ANALYSIS IN NCT DREAM’S SONG ‘RAINS IN HEAVEN

Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyse the 7 types of meaning proposed by Leech and determine the most frequent type of meaning found in NCT Dream’s song ‘Rains in Heaven’. The research design was descriptive qualitative research. The data used in this research is the lyric of NCT Dream’s song ‘Rains in Heave’. The collection technique was carried out through documentation. The meaning of NCT Dream’s song ‘Rains in Heaven’ was interpreted. Then, the lyrics of the song were analysed using Leech’s seven types of meaning. After that, the meaning found in the song is categorized. The result of the study showed that Leech's seven types of meaning can be found in the song NCT Dream’s song ‘Rains in Heaven’. These seven meanings are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning and thematic meaning. Then, the most frequent type of meaning found in NCT Dream’s song ‘Rains in Heaven’ is conceptual meaning with a percentage of 58,91%, which conveys the song’ basic meaning. However, when it comes to non-literal meaning, connotative meaning is the most frequent type found with a percentage of 18,60%, which conveys emotional message based on personal experiences, culture, or historical context
